How to Remove Your Information from Online Phone & Address Directories

Whether you like it or not, an ever-increasing number of services collect your information for display on the Internet. You can, however, remove your phone number and address information from common search sites, although you have to request it from every phone book and reverse number look-up service.

To remove your name from the Google phonebook

Google is a good place to start the process.

  1. Type your phone number into a Google search.
it may display your name, city, state, and a link to a map.

  2. Click Phonebook results for…

  1. Click your name and number to highlight it, and then click Request to have your name removed from this list.

  1. On the Google Phonebook Name Removal page, fill out the form, and click Submit Form.

To remove your name from other directories

Google recommends that you do a Google search (of course) to find additional lookup services.

  1. Go to the Google Phonebook Name Removal page.

  1. Click the name of the first directory service and type your phone number.

  2. If you don't see a direct link that will enable you to remove the listing, you may have to dig for instructions. Try clicking Help, Contact us, or FAQ. You may have to send e-mail to the directory service for instructions.

Good luck!

Linda
