DonorsChoose.org: A Great Gift for the Holidays – Or Any Other Time

Though the news is filled with recounts of Internet crimes, the vast majority of online interactions are overwhelmingly positive experiences that enrich lives

If you haven’t already heard of it, let me acquaint you with DonorsChoose.org, one organization that has harnessed the Internet’s power for positive change. This service is the brainchild of a school teacher in the Bronx who wanted to connect people who want to help students, with classrooms and schools in need of supplies and other things.

How it works:

  1. Public school teachers that need help with funding or materials create student project proposals at DonorsChoose.org.
  2. DonorsChoose carefully screens the proposals to ensure the integrity of the request and that the request meets their eligibility requirements
  3. DonorsChoose then takes care of the fulfillment process to again ensure that accountability is measured throughout the entire process.

If you are struggling to find a gift for the person on your list who has everything, or want to give an experience that’s larger than any box, or if there’s a Grinch whose heart needs growing, consider a donating a gift that makes wishes come true for both the giver and classrooms in need.
